Position responsibilities

The Educational Assistant will work under the direction of the classroom teacher and may assist with:

• Supporting students during classroom instruction, independent work, and group activities
• Providing additional help to students who need assistance with reading, writing, mathematics, or other foundational skills
• Helping younger students develop good habits of attention, organization, diligence, and respectful behaviour
• Supervising students during transitions, recess, lunch, and other activities as required
• Assisting with classroom preparation, organization, and tidying
• Helping maintain a calm, orderly, and welcoming classroom environment
• Working with teachers to reinforce classroom expectations and routines
• Supporting students with practical needs appropriate to their age and level of independence
• Assisting with school activities and events as needed
• Other duties reasonably associated with supporting the classroom and school community

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Is a committed Christian who enthusiastically supports KCA's Christ-centered mission and educational philosophy
• Loves working with young children and demonstrates patience, warmth, and good humour
• Is dependable, responsible, and willing to take initiative
• Can work well under the direction of a classroom teacher while also recognizing opportunities to be helpful
• Has strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Understands the importance of cultivating good habits, manners, attentiveness, and virtue in young children
• Is willing to learn and embrace the distinctive philosophy and practices of classical Christian education
• Has experience working with children in a school, church, childcare, or similar setting (an asset)

Hours

Part-time: approximately 16–20 hours per week, with the possibility of increased hours should enrollment increase between now and the start of the school year.

The specific schedule will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate and the school.

Qualifications

A formal Educational Assistant qualification is an asset but is not necessarily required. Relevant experience, maturity, character, and a genuine love for children are highly valued.

Successful applicants will be required to complete any applicable school screening and background-check requirements.
